CJ McCollum Discusses Damian Lillard's Move to Milwaukee and the Quest for an NBA Title

CJ McCollum, the guard for the New Orleans Pelicans and former teammate of All-Star Damian Lillard for nine seasons in Portland, shared his thoughts on Lillard's recent move to the Milwaukee Bucks in a recent interview with Aaron Fentress of The Oregonian. McCollum, having a deep understanding of Lillard's game and character, offered insights into why Milwaukee might be a better fit for his friend than Miami, the destination Lillard initially preferred.

In July, Lillard had requested a trade, with the Miami Heat being his preferred destination. However, trade negotiations between Portland and Miami never materialized, and last week, Lillard was ultimately traded to the Bucks in a three-team deal involving the Phoenix Suns. McCollum explained that Milwaukee's environment and the opportunity to play alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo could potentially provide Lillard with a better chance to pursue the elusive NBA championship.

McCollum made it clear that his comments were not meant to disrespect Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, the Miami Heat organization, or their roster. Instead, he emphasized the unique dominance of Giannis Antetokounmpo, highlighting that there is no other player in the league who exerts the same level of dominance on the court. Giannis is known for being exceptionally challenging to defend and presents a distinct playing style that sets him apart.

While Damian Lillard's time with the Portland Trail Blazers was marked by outstanding individual achievements and memorable moments, including deep playoff runs, one thing has eluded him: an NBA championship. McCollum believes that the move to Milwaukee might offer Lillard an opportunity to solidify his legacy in NBA history by pursuing that coveted championship title.
