Nuggets and Celtics top GMs' picks for NBA title
The Denver Nuggets and the Boston Celtics are the favourites to win the NBA title in the 2023/24 season, according to the annual survey of the 30 NBA general managers conducted by nba.com. Also: A Hornets guard needs surgery and Nuggets coach Michael Malone mourns his father.
The Nuggets, who are the defending champions, and the Celtics, who have added Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday to their roster, both received ten votes each. The Milwaukee Bucks, who traded for Damian Lillard, got seven votes. Phoenix got two votes and the L.A. Clippers got one vote.
The GMs also voted for Nikola Jokic of the Nuggets as the most likely MVP winner (43 percent of the votes). He also got the most votes for the player they would choose to start a franchise with.
The GMs predicted that Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves would have a breakout season, followed by Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons and Franz Wagner of the Orlando Magic. The best rookie of the year award would go to Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs, according to the GMs.
